Kihon Waza: Fundamental Techniques of Nihon Taijutsu - Self Defense

Hachi Mawashi - 3rd Throwing Technique

In Nihon Taijutsu – self-defense, it is essential to understand the differences between fundamental movements and fundamental techniques, as both play distinct but equally important roles in teaching this Japanese martial art.

Fundamental Movements (Kihon Waza I):

Fundamental movements are technical components that form the base upon which self-defense techniques are built. These movements are simple in structure but profound in application, and mastering them is essential for progress in the martial art.

Fundamental Techniques (Kihon Waza II):

Fundamental techniques, known as "the 24," are specific applications of the fundamental movements with a higher level of complexity in understanding and execution.

These 24 fundamental or base techniques are divided into three groups:

1. - 8 striking techniques, Atemi Waza.
2. - 8 joint-locking techniques, Kansetsu Waza.
3. - 8 throwing techniques, Nage Waza.
