Operation Chinnari Thalli: Child Safety, Prevention, and Self-Defense Awareness in Andhra Pradesh

The city of Nellore, in the state of Andhra Pradesh (India), hosted an important awareness and prevention event this Saturday under the framework of Operation Chinnari Thalli, an initiative launched by the Andhra Pradesh Police to strengthen child protection and women’s safety. The program was held at the Swarna Vedika Hall and brought together police authorities, educational staff, social workers, students, and representatives of organizations committed to security and social awareness.

The event was chaired by Superintendent of Police Dr. Ajitha Vejendla, while Inspector General of Police for the Women and Child Safety Division, B. Rajakumari, attended as the chief guest. During the meeting, the authorities highlighted Nellore district’s pioneering role in the use of preventive and surveillance tools, particularly through the Shakti application, integrated with the 112 emergency response system and currently considered one of the region’s leading technological platforms supporting women’s safety.

According to the data presented during the event, seven specialized Shakti teams are currently monitoring 118 identified hotspot areas across the district. In addition, thousands of awareness and training programs have been conducted, including self-defense training sessions in more than 3,300 educational institutions and the creation of 5,572 “Shakti Warrior” groups focused on prevention and response to situations of violence or abuse.

Authorities also emphasized the strict enforcement of the POCSO Act (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act), aimed at protecting minors against sexual crimes. Inspector General B. Rajakumari stated that the rigorous follow-up of judicial procedures resulted in 546 convictions last year, including life imprisonment sentences and several death penalties in particularly serious cases.

Operation Chinnari Thalli, officially launched in February 2026 by the Andhra Pradesh Police, carries the slogan “Safe Childhood – Sustainable Development” and combines preventive surveillance, monitoring of repeat offenders, night patrols, inspections of hostels and shelters, educational campaigns, and awareness programs directed at children and families.

In this context, different members and representatives of Seibukan Budo SBIF also participated in activities connected to the event, collaborating in initiatives related to training, prevention, and awareness regarding personal safety and self-defense. The participation of traditional martial arts practitioners and instructors in programs of this nature reflects the growing importance that institutions place on preventive education, discipline, self-control, and the protection of vulnerable groups within the social and educational environment.

The presence of Seibukan Budo SBIF members in this type of international initiative demonstrates the organization’s interest in supporting projects related to security, human development, and social responsibility, especially activities focused on the protection of children and women.

The event was also attended by Anganwadi personnel, ASHA workers, students, and representatives from various educational and social sectors, consolidating a joint effort between public institutions and civil society in favor of prevention and community safety.
