Commemorative Event Organized by the Embassy of Japan in Spain for the 150th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Spain (2018)
In 2018, the Embassy of Japan in Spain organized a special commemorative event to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Spain. This significant occasion brought together various cultural activities, showcasing the rich and long-standing relationship between the two nations.
As part of the celebration, the Seibukan Budo martial arts school participated with two courses demonstrating traditional Japanese martial arts: Hyoho Niten Ichi Ryu and Daito Ryu Aikibudo. These schools, steeped in history and tradition, played a key role in introducing the deep cultural and philosophical aspects of Japanese martial arts to the Spanish audience.
The Hyoho Niten Ichi Ryu, founded by the famous swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, and Daito Ryu Aikibudo, a martial art deeply rooted in Japan's warrior traditions, were presented as part of the cultural exchange between both countries. These courses offered a unique insight into the techniques and philosophy behind some of Japan’s most prestigious martial arts schools, connecting the historical bond between Spain and Japan through the shared appreciation of martial traditions.
The event provided an exceptional opportunity for participants to experience these martial arts firsthand, while strengthening the ties between the two cultures. The embassy’s effort to highlight the importance of both countries’ cultural exchange demonstrated the lasting impact of diplomacy through shared heritage.
